How to Create and Manage Your Own Website

There are over 3 billion people using the internet and this number increases each day.  By building your website, you can leverage traffic and potential buyers through these users.   Here, I will show you steps you need to take to build a website.  How to create and manage your own website - world wide web

So how do you go about getting your very own website? You can go the DIY route and do it yourself which involves buying a domain, connecting it to your web host, and installing WordPress, which I will show you the steps below OR you can use the free website builder called SiteRubix.

The difference between the two is that with your own domain name, the search engine ranks your site better.  Your website name will take the format of https://yoursite.com.

With a SiteRubix account, your website name will take the following format: https://yoursite.siterubix.com  – so you will have the siterubix identifier as part of your website name. You may be happy with this.

Firstly, the purpose of your website will influence its focus. Your website will be well structured and organised if you have a purpose in mind.  Firstly you will need to decide on the primary focus or theme of your website.  For example, will you be talking about Health and Beauty, Smoking, tennis etc? With the theme in mind, you are able to decide whether your website will be informative, an e-commerce site or even a blog.

Once you have a theme in mind and the type of website you are going to build, you will have a fairly good idea as to your website’s purpose.

Another thing to bear in mind is that to keep your website current you will need regular content so you will need to research often into your chosen theme to keep content flowing.

Domain Name

Before building a website, you will need to purchase a domain name.
A domain name is what users use to access your site. The domain name for this website is: https://goworkfromanywhere.com

You can purchase a domain name from domain registrars such as Bluehost.  Check out the review here. Once you purchase your domain name, it can take up to 72 hours before it is available on the Internet.

Hosting Company

Now that you have your domain name,  you will need a place to store your site content so that Internet users can view your website.  Web hosting allows you to store your website information on a server that’s always connected to the Internet. Again, there are many Web hosting providers.  Some domain registrars also offer to host your site as well as registering your domain name,  so it’s worth checking out each company to see if they offer this.  By opting for this option, you are only paying once – for the domain name and hosting of your website.

Hosting.co.uk also provides web hosting packages as well as other popular Web hosting providers such as GoDaddy, Bluehost and Hostgator.

Many hosting companies have a number of different “plans” with varying amounts of bandwidth and server space.  If your website is a personal website where your theme is based on your interest, the starter or basic package should be sufficient for your needs.    However, if you do decide on a starter package and your website needs outgrow the capabilities, some hosts allow you to upgrade for a fee that is negligible.  It is best to compare the services and compare the prices the services offer before buying.  Key things to check are the quality of service, support and up-time guarantees.

 Setting up WordPress

WordPress is an online, open source website creation tool  – It is the easiest and most powerful blogging and website content management system (or CMS) in existence today.  It is also free.
