How To Make Money From Your Hobby

Making money from your hobby

Have You Thought About Making Money From Your Hobby?

It’s great that you have landed here on my site.  This post will give you enough information to get you started and take action on making money from your hobby.

Doing something that you are passionate about not only makes you happy but it also gives a sense of greater well-being.

Did you know that you can turn your hobby into a money-making business?    Gone are the days where you have created something of great use and it ends up in the bottom drawer.

You need to realise that people want to buy what you have created.  That is why you see sites like Etsy, eBay and Amazon Marketplace flourishing.  People are no longer keeping their talents to themselves.  They are exposing what they are doing through the internet.

Your hobby may be knitting baby garments, making personalised cards, creating booklets, making jewellery, photography or something else it doesn’t matter.  You can still make money from doing what you love to do the most.

Many successful businesses are developed off the back of a passion or hobby and with the Internet, it makes it even easier to create your business online.  With over 3 billion users across the globe, the internet is the place to advertise your business.

Creating Your Online Business

For an online business, you are going to need a website.  This website will be used to show all your content, comments from visitors, videos, newsletters and items relating to your hobby.

Creating a website is so much easier these days.  Click the video below to see for yourself.

Build a website in less than 30 seconds

If you’ve watched the video – which I hope you have – you will see how easy it is to create a website.

With a website, you can create your own unique content with videos and images to attract people to buy your goods.  However, you need to maintain your website and apply techniques that will have your site ranked highly in order to attract more visitors.

Social Media Platform

Everyone is talking about Social Media.  If you don’t know what this is, you’re seriously missing out.

See the icons below?  These are Social Media icons.  Not everyone is on Facebook to talk about their holidays, find out who’s going out with who or what’s the latest gossip.  Most people are on there to promote their business. You could be too.

Social Media icons

Here are some stats from 2015 and they are on the increase.

Stats1: In 2015 Facebook influenced 52 percent of consumers’ online and offline purchases, up from 36 percent in 2014. (Source: The Drum)

Stats 2:  There are now more than 50 million small businesses using Facebook Pages to connect with their customers (Source: Facebook). 4 million of those businesses pay for social media advertising on Facebook. (Source: Forbes)

It shows that the Social media platform is growing and how important it is to be part of this if you want to see your business grow.

You will need to set yourself up on Social Media.  Doing so will make your business visible to your potential customers.

It doesn’t cost to set yourself up on Social Media.  All you need is an email account.

Here are links to the top Social Media sites:

https://www.facebook.com
https://pinterest.com
https://twitter.com
https://youtube.com
https://plus.google.com/
https://instagram.com

Pinterest and Instagram are great platforms for posting images and pictures.  People are visual so these media will be ideal to show off your work.

Start by creating an email account that you can use across all platforms.   You can choose to use an existing email account but personally, I like to keep my business separate from my personal account.  I know that when I log into my ‘goworkfromanywhere’ email account, I will see emails pertaining to my business and nothing else.  However, you may decide to use an existing email account.  That’s fine.

You may want to look into advertising to promote similar products or services to your business but for now, creating your Social Media accounts will do until your website is a few months old then you can expand into this and other areas.

Make Money From Your Hobby – Become an Affiliate Marketer

Did you know that alongside your website, you can become an Affiliate Marketer by promoting a product that is in a similar niche to yours?

So if your hobby is photography, why not become an affiliate of Amazon, eBay or another company that sells photography equipment?   You will not only be making money from your own products, you will earn a commission from the sale of a product through your affiliate link.

Affiliate Marketing is a great way to earn a passive income if you get off to a great start with your online business.

Make Money From Your Hobby – Sell On Etsy

If your hobby is a craft, the Etsy website is a great place to sell your wares as it allows you to sell craft items through their online shop.

This is another great way to monetise your hobby.  As Etsy is a crowded marketplace with over a million online stores, you may decide to create your own online business where you are ‘set apart’ from the rest.

If you decide to go down the Etsy route, here is the link for you to sign up.

There are other websites where you can sell your wares.  As I mentioned above, Amazon Marketplace and eBay are great for small businesses; you can also sell used goods here.

Make Money Offline

You may want to test the waters first to see if the product you have is in demand before you commit yourself to setting up accounts, creating Social media platforms and the rest.

You can team up with a local business, relevant to your craft.  This will give you a closer customer focus experience as you might be able to have conversations with customers about what they like about your product and get ideas for possible improvements. There is also the added benefit of marketing it locally which could prove to be attractive to buyers.

Final Thoughts

I have mentioned quite a lot of things on how to make money from your hobby.

I have not gone into too much detail for a good reason.  Every business is different.  This is an overview of some of the steps you can take to make money from your hobby.  There are a lot more avenues you can take.

With an online business, it isn’t something that is a quick fix.    Yes, you can create a website in less than 30 seconds as you have seen.  However, a website is something that is very much active.   Have you come across a website and have seen the date on an article being a couple of years old?   What do you do?   Yes.  Leave the page and go and look somewhere else.  You are looking for content that is more recent.

That is just one aspect of your website – keeping it up-to-date with content.

There are other aspects such as how to drive traffic to your website, how to make your website appealing, what keywords to use,  how should you write your content and a host of other things.

If you want to be successful in making money from your hobby and learn the ropes, why not check out this free program that I am a member of.  It’s my #1recommendation.  I have been a part of this program for 1 year and everything you see on my website has been achieved through the training I received from them.

I have learnt so much and made some money through this program and I want to help you to make money from your hobby.

As Robert T. Kiyosaki mentions in his book Rich Dad, Poor Dad, they don’t tell us how money works when we are in school.  They tell us, go to school, learn a trade then start to work.

You need to make your money work for you rather than you work for your money.

You can do this through my #1 recommended program.

When you want to move up in the corporate world, you are making the tax man richer; sometimes its best to not to be promoted to the next pay bracket so that you don’t get penalised.   Oh, and what about when it’s time to go on holiday, you can’t because someone else has booked before you (unless you’re a teacher!).

What if we can be our own boss by making money from our hobby – Make your money work for you, rather than you work for your money?  Wouldn’t that be nice?  You’re your own boss AND you are doing something you are passionate about.  This is possible with the Wealthy Affiliate program!!  And it works!!

Why not give it a try, it’s FREE, no credit card required.  If you want more information, read the review then you can either sign-up using one of the links on the review page or you can sign up by clicking the button below.

One last word…

Make your money (and your talents) work for you, rather than you work for your money!

    • Hi Sergio,

      Thanks for stopping by.

Isn’t it great that the content is your own?  That’s the beauty about owning your own website – you make it want you want it to be.

Best of luck with your online venture.

I never checked out Etsy before and will definitely take a good look now. Certainly this will help in beginning to pursue an online dream…

    Thank You!

How long have you been working online? What would be the one more tip you could pass along?

    • Thanks for your comment Robert.

Yes. Check out Etsy.  It’s a great platform for hobbyist to sell their wares.  It is well known for arts and craft, hence the huge volume of shops.

      I’ve been online since 2016.

A tip I would pass on to would-be entrepreneurs is that before settling on a niche for your business make sure it is something you enjoy doing/talking about – don’t focus on the money side of things.  Focus on providing valuable content for your visitors and the money will follow.
