So you want to know how to rank high on Google search.
There are certain things that Google is looking for to rank your site high on its search engine. SEO – Search Engine Optimisation – is the key to ranking high on Google. SEO is the means of getting traffic from natural search results to search engines like Google and Bing.
Google has a reputation and it is going to want to present to you the best sites that they know will help you find a solution to your search query otherwise, you might go somewhere else to find what you are looking for and Google doesn’t want that.
It is in their interest to present to you, on the first page, sites that will offer you quality, useful, helpful and valuable information.
So let’s begin our quest on how to rank high on google search
Content and User Experience
Content is king!! You might have heard this before and you will no doubt hear it again.
The quality of the content you have created is crucial to you being ranked high on Google. Google no longer focus on keywords alone as they can now detect what constitutes as quality content versus low-quality content.
Make sure that the content you create provides the user with value and a solution to their problem (their search query). What will they take away? Will their needs be met or will they carry out another search query?
Write as though you are talking to a friend. Be generous with the information you provide. Be concise and don’t waffle. People don’t have time. Just get to the point unless your site is providing research information in fields such as medicine, academia etc. where the information needs to be thorough.
Update your content regularly
Google loves frequent updates. You should see your website as a live entity on the internet.
The more updates and content you publish, the more Google sees that something is going on with your website and will reward you by indexing your site as your updates and content presents Google with fresh content and information for their search requests.
When Google looks at your site often, the opportunity is there for you to rank higher if you have great content that provides quality information. So, it is a good idea to update your content frequently but make sure the content is of high quality and not just unthought of, quickly put together sentences stuffed with keywords otherwise you are going to be penalized.
Get those social media buttons onto your website!! If people are sharing your content, it tells Google that your content is of value. People don’t share content unless it is worthwhile doing so.
Through sites like Google+, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest etc. Google is able to determine the social value of content. The more shares and likes your site get, the higher it moves up the ranking table.
Activity (through comments)
If your content is interesting and engaging, people will leave comments on your posts. You can request visitors to leave comments on your site, by using a call to action. For example, you can say something like ‘What do you think about this? I’d like to hear from you’. This type of ‘Call to Action’ is engaging and shows visitors that you are very open to other peoples views, even though it is your post.
If you do get a well-argued, negative comment, leave it. It makes your comments and posts more attractive as it shows that it is engaging visitors from different perspectives.
A keyword is simply a word or phrase that people search for in the search engines. Every time you do a google search you are entering a “keyword” into the search box.
So, if someone typed ‘How to start my own business online’ into the Google Search bar, based on this phrase/these words, you will see a list of sites that will help you in your quest to “Start your own business online”.
Those sites, listed on Page 1 of the search results, will have valuable information that Google (and you the user) are looking for!!
The sites that appear in the list will have been highly ranked based on a combination of the following: valuable content, great keywords, lots of activity through comments, lots of engagement through social media mechanisms, internal linking and videos.
Each and every page or post on your website should be targeting a specific keyword theme. Keywords are what lead to a higher ranking in search engines and subsequently, more traffic to your website.
The placement of keywords within the elements of your webpage is crucial. It is these elements as well as the other attributes such as great content, internal linking, regular updates etc. that Google uses to rank your site. Therefore, having your keywords in these elements (listed below) can help to increase the rank of your site.
- Meta Title
- Meta Description
If you like what you see, I highly recommend subscribing to Jaaxy. It will turn your Keyword Research into revenue. Not only that, you get 30 free searches to try out before you buy.
By using keywords in these elements, they will help promote the value of your site to the search engines and visitors giving you opportunities to monetize your web traffic or gather leads for your business.
This is where you refer back to another page on your own website. I have done this above where I have referred you to my Jaaxy Review. I have done it again.
When Google sees these internal links, it seems that the content on your website is connected in one way or another and the user experience will be even greater as content that they are looking for will all be in one place – your site.
However, try to limit your internal linking to something sensible; on a post like this, 7-10 links is fine. Placing links on a page/post for the sake of having them, will be seen as “keyword stuffing”. Google will pick up on this and may penalise you by not ranking your site.
People like to see things in action. In the writing world, we say ‘show don’t tell’. This is true for the online world too. Showing your product or whatever it is you are providing a solution to, can be seen through videos.
If you are selling smartphones, why not create a video of the smartphone in use. You can show things like it’s size by placing it in your hands and using this as a comparison.
For a tutorial on ‘How to make a Youtube video’, you can record the steps to take, to make the video, showing images of each stage.
Google knows that videos provide an even better user experience than just plain text, and will highly rank a site with videos. Google also looks at the amount of time a visitor spends on your page. The longer someone spends on your page gives an indication that the page is engaging and interesting. A video of 2 minutes, will keep the visitor on your page for two minutes.
Can you imagine what a video of 5 minutes could achieve?
Do You Want To Rank High On Google?
Don’t be fooled into thinking that you can pull the wool over Google’s eyes in using methods other than those listed above to try and get your page to the top of its search results. Google changes its algorithm whenever it sees fit and overtime, other methods may need to be adopted.
